Like Adam and Ronan waking up and not speaking until hours after they've gotten up. All they need is their weekend routine of get up, get coffee, get comfortable with a book. Decisions like what to have for breakfast or who's doing the dishes are communicated with glances, raised eyebrows, rolled eyes, pinky fingers brushing past each other and gentle shoulder nudges. - Adam always wakes up first and always before his alarm. Instead of moving or waking up Ronan, he’ll sometimes just take a few moments to watch him sleep. For some reason Adam finds Ronan drooling on his pillow incredibly endearing. He also likes to take in his surroundings and remind himself he’s here. He’s at the barns. He’s safe. And he’s living the best kind of life he could imagine.
- Ronan always wakes up annoyed. Adam finds that incredibly endearing too. First he throws his blankets off. Then he tosses once…twice…and then finally Adam’s alarm will go off and Ronan will grumble into his pillow before looking up and locking eyes with Adam.
- It’s incredible how quickly the anger and annoyance can fade from Ronan’s face when he sees who he’s waking up next to.
- Adam is the first one out of bed and goes into the bathroom. They brush their teeth side by side and as soon as they’re done, Adam always kisses Ronan good morning to watch him blush. It never gets old for either of them. It’s just a soft brush of the lips but it’s intimate. It says, “There is nothing more important for me to do now that I’m awake than to kiss you.”
- Ronan makes the coffee. Adam shuffles into the kitchen behind him and sits at the table. Usually they just stare at each other for a couple moments in a sleepy haze. Adam is already half awake but he sort of likes looking at Ronan so he pretends he’s too tired to talk. Ronan knows he’s not but likes that he fakes it anyways.
- Adam likes to read the morning paper. Ronan likes to eat toast and stare off into space. Sometimes Ronan will put on the radio and play oldies since they can both agree on it being morning music even though they wouldn’t typically listen to it on their own time.
- Opal is a late sleeper but when she does shuffle in she’s already wide awake and usually yelling. Their quiet mornings go from peaceful to chaos in point two seconds. But truthfully? They both wouldn’t have it any other way. And they know this when Opal circles the table for the third time and Ronan and Adam’s eyes lock and they just smile at each other. Life is good. They’re good.

Adam was not always alone, but he was always lonesome. Even in a group, he was slowly perfecting the skill of holding himself separate. It was easier than one might expect; the others allowed him to do it. He knew he was different since aligning himself more tightly with the ley line this summer. He was himself, but more powerful. Himself, but less human.
