I’m just so sick of caring and getting hurt because of it. I wish I didn’t care about everything as much as I did. I’m so sick of feeling hurt and pain and disappointment and I wish I didn’t have to, and even if I did, I wish it didn’t have to happen so often.
why did we as a society allow galavant to get canceled… if i had to deal with sad white man sells meth for five seasons y'all could have dealt with medieval musical extravaganza for at least three.

BROADWAY IS A BUSINESS
Broadway is a business. The Tonys are an extension of that, same as other awards shows are extensions of their businesses. Upset about your show not winning? Upset about something not happening how you wanted it to? Broadway is a business, and the American Theatre Wing is trying to promote the businesses it can as much as it can–in a way, it picks and chooses what it wants to succeed. And a lot of times that will help the lesser-known content, like The Band’s Visit and Hadestown, get ticket sales, while shows with names everyone knows, like Beetlejuice and King Kong, are often easier to sell to a demographic because they’re more well known.
(And that’s not to say that The Band’s Visit and Hadestown don’t deserve the awards they receive, simply to keep in mind that there are motivations outside what you think the motivations may be for awarding Tonys to something.)
Does the business aspect of Broadway excuse the problematic stuff that happened and happens? HELL no. It doesn’t and it won’t. But if you’re spewing hate to actors/designers/shows over the business decisions made by the American Theatre Wing, and fixating on something getting “robbed” as opposed to something else wonderful winning, please reevaluate what you’re saying.
(And of course! You can be upset! I’m upset over some things too and I definitely realize how personal theatre is! But rudeness is not the way to go and sometimes realizing other motivations can be helpful.)
